Of Riordan books and time control

Play. Rewind.PJO HOO
Who the heck is Percy Jackson? He asked himself when the name caught his eye on his Facebook news feed.

He has heard the name before. Yesterday? The other day? Last week? Last month? He really doesn’t remember but he knows that name. Thinking… Right. It’s that movie about a guy who is a son of a god. No, not Jesus. That’s another topic. I was talking about children of Greek gods: Hercules, Perseus, and a bunch of other Greek heroes; stuff like that. In other words, demigods. And they like to be called half-bloods.

Ooo-kay. What’s the big deal? Nothing.

Scratch the prior paragraph. Fast forward.

Department store. Bookstore. Novels section. He is a scholar (a university scholar that is) and so he receives this stipend at the end of the semester. And he needs to spend it…on books. He searched the shelf and they caught his attention. Before his eyes were the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series (less Book Five) in all their glory. He is so going to buy them. But you see, he doesn’t want to spend all his pathetic one-thousand-five-hundred money immediately. Instead, he picked up Book One and paid it at the cashier. Mind you, he was jumping when he got out of the store.

He read the book in approximately ten hours, two sittings. Then he went back to that same store again and bought Book Two, Three, and then Four…in that order. And yes, he was addicted. That’s how powerful Riordan’s novels are.

And oh, his best friend bought Book Five for him. And he’s still paying for it. Just saying.

Pause. So why do I love the PJO series? Simply because they are Greek mythology, modern Greek mythology that is. And hey, I love the classics. But it’s not simply that. I love the PJO series because the gods are great teachers of life’s lessons, well aside from Chiron though.
“You can’t give up on your family, no matter how tempting they make it.” –Hermes
“You have to rise above the squabbling and chaos, and keep believing.” –Hera
“People are more difficult to work with than machines. And when you break a person, he can’t be fixed.” –Hephaestus
“Sometimes small things can become very large indeed.” –Dionysus
“There is always a way out for those who are clever enough to find it.” –Athena
“Life is a fragile thing.” –Artemis
If that isn’t enough, read the series. I assure you, it could change the way you think about the world. Not that the Greek gods really exist (that would be so cool and yeah) but that you yourself can change.

Current time. Play.

He’s currently reading the Heroes of Olympus series Book One…oh wait, I meant re-reading.

He once said in his Facebook status, “Read ‘The Lost Hero’ not because it’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series’ sequel but because it teaches you the real meaning and value of friendship.”

Don’t let me elaborate that. I know you get what I mean.

I have said enough. Stop.
